The Baptist Health System School of Health Professions is a part of the Baptist Health System (BHS), which was founded from a private cluster of health science schools that was sponsored by the BHS. The School of Nursing was the first school, opened in 1903, followed by Surgical Technology in 1955, Medical Imaging Technology in 1959, and in 1988 Vocational Nursing was started.


BHS School offers numerous coursework and variety of programs that prepares an aspiring student, offering excellence in health care field. The student can avail the facility of on-line and classroom instruction, clinical experience, lab trainings, and simultaneously groom up for clinical practice. The foundation of the theoretical class coursework and clinical hand-on training provides a student required competency, knowledge and skills to excel in their entry level job and continued growth throughout their professional lives by becoming highly competent and caring future health care professionals.

In order to get admission into Baptist School of Nursing there are few requisites, which an enrolling student must complete and they includes

  1. Applicants must complete a criminal background check.
  2. Applicants complete and pass a substance abuse test.
  3. Applicants undergo immunizations tests.
  4. Submit a copy of their high school Diploma/GED.
  5. Provide verification of current health care insurance.
  6. Submit a current CPR for Health Care Providers certification by the American Heart Association.
  7. Attend scheduled student success orientation prior to starting classes (not applicable  to Certified Nurse Assistant, Phlebotomy, Preoperative, or Online and/or Seminar courses)
  8. Prior to starting classes International F1 Visa students must clear with the International Advisor
  9. Before starting classes VA qualified students must clear with the VA/Financial Aid Advisor before starting classes.

THE BSHS offers Title IV, federal financial aids and scholarships to students to complete their programs, including Federal Pell Grant, Federal Direct Subsidized Loan, and Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan.

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging
  • LVN to RN Advanced Placement Nursing (AAS)
  • Vocational Nursing *Applications will continue to be accepted after the deadline in the event a class is not filled.  Deadline extended to May 15.

Non-semester start programs

  • Perioperative Nursing starts in January and July
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (online only) – Open enrollment for May Admissions
  • Accelerated Alternate Delivery-Surgical Technology (online only) – call admissions for start dates
  • Nurse Aide Training Competency Evaluation Program – call admissions for start dates

The Texas Workforce Commission, Career Schools and Colleges Section, http://www.twc.state.tx.us/ has granted approval and regulates the Baptist Health System School of Health Professions.
