Nursing assistant programs in this state are accredited by the Louisiana Department of Health. Nurse aide classes are conducted by public health clinics, hospitals, mental health facilities, nursing homes, community colleges and technical schools.
In order to enrol in training programs, you need to complete the following requirements:
- You must be 18 years old.
- Students should hold a GED or a diploma in high school.
- Submit a criminal background report and health check-up report.
The fee and length of CNA training depends on the college or university, you choose. However, the federal regulations has mandated for every nursing assistant class to offer minimum of 80 hours of instructions (including forty hours of clinical exposure and forty hours of classroom studies). The cost of these classes varies from $800 to $2000. The programs last for twelve to fifteen weeks.
Some healthcare facilities would offer employment while training you to become a certified nursing assistant. This way, you can earn while learning and take the benefit of the in-built job opportunity, after completion of your training program. However, a majority of settings in Louisiana sponsor your training at other facilities.
The classroom teaching deals with the roles, responsibilities and duties, a certified nursing assistant has to accomplish, while working in actual medical environment.
