To become a CNA in the state of Vermont involves following required steps. The very first step is to qualify the set eligibility requirements as only qualified candidates are eligible to take the training programs. After training, comes taking the competency NNAAP examination. The entire process of certification is monitored by the Vermont Agency of Human Services. The examination of NNAAP is taken through Pearson Vue.

Eligibility Criteria

It is necessary to meet the given below requirements to become eligible for enrolment in certified nursing assistant programs-

  • Age of aspirants must not be less than 18 years;
  • They must take a criminal background check. This check is important to asses previous acts neglect or abuse, conviction on offenses, loss of license case, taxation related issue, child support payment related issues or district court issue; and
  • They must own and provide a proof of a GED or a HIGH School Diploma;

How to Apply

It is not mandatory for all candidates to take the training programs before applying for the testing. Such luxury is enjoyed by only a few candidates and they are:

  • Licensed LPN or RN having clinical experience of minimum 30 hours;
  • Candidates who have taken training from other state but didn’t write the exam;
  • CNAs who are in good standing in other state’s registry and have also got work experience of 2 years; or
  • Out of state or Lapsed CNA of Vermont, with minimum work experience of 400 hours during the past 2 years.

All the state approved programs involve the clinical work of 100 hours and the classroom learning of 75 hours. Candidates can schedule the exam after completing the training.

Fees

A training course of Certified Nursing Aide takes a few months to terminate and costs roughly $ 800. This does not include testing fees. The written and practical skills are the two sections in the testing. Different methods of tests involve different fees. Here, they are:

Both Practical and written examination: $ 130
Orally administered both Practical and written examination: $ 130
Written retesting: $ 35
Practical retesting: $ 95
Oral retesting: $ 35

Certificate Renewal

  • The licence holds its validity for 24 months. After completion of 2 years from the date of issue or previous renewal, there is a need to renew the certificate.
  • CNAs need to keep track of the expiration date of their licence as no notification mail is sent to them.
  • The renewal date of certificates is always November 30th.
  • The certificate can be renewed online by filling the Nursing Assistant Renewal Application form available at the website of the Vermont Board of Nursing .
