Board of Nursing New York comprises of 17 Board members that represent nursing field, state and public. Out of these, 2 board members are from Public, 4 Licensed Practical Nurse, 11 licensed registered professional nurses. Board members are appointed by the board of regents on recommendation of the commissioner for assisting the board of regents and the department on issues concerning to professional licensing and professional conducts in accordance with section sixty-five hundred eight of this title.


It is also mandatory that the board must constitute minimum fifteen members that include eleven registered professional nurses and four licensed practical nurses. These appointed members must be all licensed and practicing in NY State for at least five years. Board of Regent also appoints an executive secretary on the recommendation of the commissioner and he/she must be a registered professional nurse registered in this state.

New York State Board of Nursing is mainly concentrated with three distinct licenses, such as Registered Professional Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse and Nurse Practitioner, within the nursing profession in New York State.
