St Joseph School of Nursing saw its inception through St. Joseph Hospital, which was officially opened in May 1908 and in 1910 a school for “professional” nursing was founded. Initially, the school also used to offer RN program but discontinued in 1963.


Practical Nursing Program

The need of community led to the establishment of a practical nursing program in 1964 by St Joseph, because the necessity of practical nurses in today’s health care environment is greater than ever before. The Practical Nursing Program offers a diploma in practical nursing and eligibility to take the NCLEX-PN licensure examination. The curriculum consists of 42 credit hours of theory, 1 credit hour of lab, and 12 credit hours of clinical experience.

Practical Nursing Program is fully accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc, which offered approval rating of eight years in March 2004 and, the program is also fully approved by the New Hampshire Board of Nursing and licensed by the New Hampshire Postsecondary Education Commission.

Currently, nearly 80 students are enrolled in the practical nursing program

Associate of Science in Nursing degree program

The school also offers an Associate of Science in Nursing degree program, which is a transition course for licensed practical nurses, which is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc, and approved by the New Hampshire Board of Nursing and licensed by the New Hampshire Postsecondary Education Commission.

Currently, nearly 55 students are enrolled in the Associate of Science in Nursing degree program.

LPN to RN Transition – One-Year Track

The ASN degree program also offers a one-year track for licensed practical nurses.


Practical Nurse Refresher Course

Practical Nurse Refresher Course comprises of 148-hour curriculum, which is designed to assist the Practical Nurse, who has not been active in practice to re-enter the work force again. A temporary license must be obtained from the New Hampshire State Board of Nursing prior to the start of the course. The courses have both theory and clinical components.

Nursing Assistant Course

The Nursing Assistant course is offered throughout the year at various times, which consist of 90 hours Class and 90 hours clinical components, and the program has duration of an 8-12 week period and is scheduled at regular intervals throughout the year.

The completion of the Nursing Assistant Course, offers graduates eligibility to take the New Hampshire licensure exam that is administered at the School.

School Accreditation

The accreditation to St Joseph School of Nursing is granted by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).
