Vanderbilt University School of Nursing is located at Nashville, TN 37240 and, its history goes back to 1909 as one of the first five schools to receive Rockefeller funding for the implementation of the Goldmark Report of 1923. The school started providing the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) in 1955 and was first to offer a “bridge” program in 1986 for non nursing degrees students. First BSN degree was offered at 1935 and was also restructured into the “bridge” program.
The PhD in Nursing Science program began in 1993. The school was first to start Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and started providing Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program in 1975. The school also offers few dual focus programs and dual degrees, such as Midwifery/FNP and an MSN/PhD fast-track programs. Many nursing specialties programs are also offered by the school including, nursing informatics, clinical management, clinical research management and health systems management.
From more than 50 states and students from abroad are availing nursing programs from the school. The students also get excellent opportunity for research and clinical practice due to its partnership with Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The basic aim of Vanderbilt School of Nursing is to preserve nursing excellence and advance the art and science of nursing among students through education, practice and research.
The Mission of the school covers four broad areas of Academics, Faculty Practice, Research, and Informatics. The school tries to achieve its goal and mission by remaining distinguished among its peers and implementation of innovations in its educational instructions, faculty practice, research, and informatics, which results in benefiting community and society at large.
